Energy efficiency is an important pillar of the Cluster Energy Technology. The technical scope of energy efficiency technologies is very broad but its individual areas are considerably intertwined. This is why the Cluster Energy Technology puts a focus on the areas of energy efficiency in buildings, energy supply of quarters and sites as well as on the use of energy efficiency technologies in industrial processes.
In the Energy Strategy 2030 (German website), Brandenburg set itself the goal of reaching average energy savings of 1.1 per cent per year. This goal is only attainable through increasing energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption. Within the Berlin Energy and Climate Protection Programme 2030, energy efficiency is of central importance, which becomes apparent, for example, through measures aimed at creating funding opportunities for efficiency measures and through the Energy Efficiency Campaign Berlin (German website).
The guideline RENplus 2014-2020 (German website), which entered into force on 1 March 2016, provides €30.6 million for energy efficiency projects in the state of Brandenburg until 2020. The funds stem from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
For the period of 2015 to 2020, the programme provides funding for innovative measures, projects and initiatives that, among other things, are supposed to contribute to the improvement of energy efficiency in private businesses as well as in public infrastructures and buildings in Berlin. BENE is being co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The Cluster Energy Technology commissioned a potential study in order to gain a qualitative and quantitative overview of the market for energy efficient products and services in Brandenburg and Berlin.
The results of the study depict technological developments and application opportunities in the fields of industry, trade, commerce and services. A special focus lies on the potential and the challenges linked to technology for the improvement of energy efficiency as well as on possible success factors.
Important players of the Cluster Energy Technology Berlin-Brandenburg can benefit from the depiction of the current research and development trends and innovation topics.
